pregnant teen adoption not going as planned - Adoption.com Forums

We have a unique situation. We met a pregnant teen in care who was due 6 weeks after we met her. The agency said she desperately wanted to be adopted and her current placement was saying she had to leave before baby was born. We really liked this girl and talked to all of her workers who really sold us on her. We never planned to adopt a pregnant teen nor did we ever want to adopt a 17 year old. But there was a major need and we really liked her. We rushed the approval process (we are already licenced foster parents) and they asked her a week later. She said she wasn't sure and wanted to know us better.

We started over-night visits and have had several visits. I have been to doctors appointments and she spent nearly a week with us. We really care about her and think she is a great fit in our family. She says she really likes us but ?needs more time.? She has been saying she didn't want to move before baby was born and the current foster parents (who refuse to adopt her) changed their mind said she could stay until 21.

We just had a doctor?s visit and she is pretty far dilated so the chances of her moving before a baby is born is zero anyway. This is a big problem for us because we agreed to foster/adopt a pregnant teen to help her through those first days, weeks, months, etc. Now, she is going to have this baby and we are going to have to try to have visits with her and the baby. She lives an hour away and I just don?t see how things could realistically move on from here.

We are really struggling. I don?t think this is likely work now but don?t feel like we can back out either. I am so frustrated about the situation and stressed out. I don't know what to do.

Has anyone adopted a pregnant teen that had the baby during the process? How did it work logistically?

thanks!
